Frequently Asked Question
A common issue with an iPad that won't turn on is a drained battery or a software glitch. Try these troubleshooting steps in order:
1. Check the Power and Charge the iPad
- Plug it in: Connect your iPad to a working power outlet using a genuine Apple charging cable and power adapter.
- Wait: Let it charge for at least 30 minutes to an hour. If the battery was completely drained, it might take a few minutes before the charging screen or Apple logo appears.
- Check the cable and adapter: If it still doesn't turn on, try a different cable and wall adapter to rule out faulty charging accessories. Also, check the charging port for any debris and gently clean it with compressed air if necessary.
2. Perform a Force Restart
If the charging step doesn't work, the iPad may be frozen with a black screen, and a force restart can fix software glitches without erasing your data. The method depends on your iPad model:
For iPads with Face ID or with Touch ID in the Top Button (No Home Button):
- Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
- Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the Top button (power button).
- Release the Top button when the Apple logo appears (this may take 10-20 seconds).
For iPads with a Home Button:
- Press and hold both the Home button and the Top button (power button) simultaneously.
- Release both buttons when the Apple logo appears (this may take 10-20 seconds).
